An army ‘jawan’ Pramod Reddy was thrashed by people at Defence Colony in Neredmet after he allegedly stalked a teenager and tried to kidnap her.

The 29-year-old accused from Jammalamadugu in Kadapa district, living at Bollarum military quarters, was later handed over to the Neredmet police. A criminal case under sections 363 read with 509 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against him.

According to police, Reddy, riding a bike, started following a 19-year-old girl who went to Vishal Bharathi school in Defence Colony to pick up her sister’s daughter. “While she was going to the school, the jawan followed her and tried to speak to her even as she remained calm,” Neredmet Inspector P. Srinivas said.

The jawan continued to stalk her even as she started for home with the child, asking her to come along.

On reaching home, she complained to her family, upon which residents of the locality thrashed him after finding him waiting at a secluded spot near the Bhavan’s School in the area. They later handed him over to the police.
