Congress Legislature Party Leader K. Jana Reddy warned the Government that if the borrowings continue to be more than the revenue of the State, it would land in a similar position that of Vijay Mallya.

Speaking to reporters at the CLP on Tuesday along with Mr. Shabbir Ali and T. Jeevan Reddy, he said that the Congress gave several suggestions during the debate on budget and made it clear that taking loans would push the State into a debt trap. He added that the Congress members made key suggestions on allocations to various sectors, revenue and the spendings and how they need to be kept under check.

However, the Government was in no mood to listen, understand or follow the advice. “We explained the huge deficit gap between the revenues, allocations and the spendings to the Government and the CAG report released on Monday proved that how the budgets were unrealistic.

Mr. Reddy said that the Government spent just 49% of the SC and ST Sub Plan in 2015-16 and the remaining was spent in 2016-17 without releasing a single rupee for 2016-17.

This is nothing but cheating the SCs and STs. Similarly, the loans taken through the Corporations were shown in the budget as revenue to take new loans.

Instead of clarifying the issues raised by the members, the Government was more interested in giving speeches. This trend was dangerous and the Government should realise this fast. He felt that economists should give reports on the State budget so that common man can understand it easily.

Mr. Jana Reddy said that the 2019 polls would reveal the fate and the genuineness of the surveys and there was no need to comment on them now.
