Water level has increased in the Hussain Sagar lake, Hyderabad, due to heavy rain.

Grievances related to inundations, power cuts, tree falls and other emergencies poured in, a day after the heavy cloudburst that pounded the city for a good two-and-a-half hours on Monday.

More than 1,100 complaints were received via three channels, ‘Dial 100’, GHMC emergency call centre, and the mobile app, out of which the corporation could address only 187 by Tuesday evening. A total of 612 complaints were lodged on Monday, and 498 on Tuesday since 6 a.m.

Majority of the complaints pertained to water logging and inundation of colonies. While officials either refused to acknowledge or did not divulge information about total points of inundation, it has been learnt that a total of 13,509 families from 106 localities across the city were identified as vulnerable in case of emergencies.

A total of 105 lakes out of the total 185 in GHMC purview are overflowing, while 55 lakes are 75 per cent filled. Hussainsagar is filled to the brim, with a recorded water level of 513.58 feet against the full tank level of 513.41 feet. While the officials have claimed that there is no inundation of colonies due to overflow of lakes, water logging has been recorded in Hasan Nagar of Bahadurpura, Shaikpet, Nampally, Begum Bazar, and Narayanguda.

Due to excessive inflows in Ramanthapur Peddacheruvu, 50 huts were inundated, and the residents had to be evacuated. Five apartment complexes and 50 houses too were inundated, and de-watering efforts were on.

Rehabilitation was provided to slum dwellers in Singidikunta, Amberpet Baggikhana, Habsiguda, and Shivarampalli areas whose habitations were flooded during rain.

Besides inundation, tree falls have been a major problem faced by the city. As per official information, a total of 85 trees were uprooted under the impact of rain on Monday and Tuesday.

Owing protracted clearance of water logging and fallen trees, many road stretches in the city experienced severe traffic problems during morning hours on Tuesday. An advisory was issued asking commuters to avoid Minister Road, Banjara Hills, Punjagutta, Begumpet, Moazzamjahi Market, and Naryanguda-Liberty route on which clearance works were in progress.

Medical camps were conducted by GHMC in Agapura basthi, Mangar Basthi, Shyamrao Nagar, First Lancer, CBN Nagar, Baggi Khana and Brahmanwadi.

A city coordination meeting with participation from various departments including GHMC, Police, HMWSSB, district administration and others was held, where it was decided to collect the contact numbers of residents who stay close to nalas and tanks, and develop a special communication network for emergency situations.

Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan has announced an ex-gratia of ₹ 4 lakh through discom for the person who died of electrocution, and ₹2 lakh each for the victims of wall collapse in Banjara Hills on Monday.
