This Sunday promises to be a busy day for Hyderabadis.
The twin dates of May 12 and 13 are the most auspicious days, and as a result the city is gearing up for a large number of weddings, particularly on Sunday.
With celebrities like actor Gopichand and wards of VIPs tying the knot, the city promises to be a beehive of activity as people are set to hop from one venue to another.
The rush was such that most function halls and gardens were booked days in advance, leaving late comers to settle for second or third choices.
Rush in shops
The marriage rush was seen on city roads from Saturday evening itself as people flocked shopping malls, novelty shops and jewellery shops to grab gift items for couples entering wedlock.
“I had to scout three shops before buying a gift for my cousin. Since marriage is a once-in-life time affair, the gift has to be memorable, too,” P. Soumya, a resident of Mehdipatnam, gushed.
Event managers
The rush for marriages also buoyed the demand for event managers and related services.
“Most wedding planners charge a minimum of Rs. 3 lakh for decorating pandals. But because of the rush, the rate has gone up by a couple of notches,” Sneha Singh, a wedding planner, said.
Traffic problems
While people were busy with last-minute preparations, cops, too, are gearing up for managing the traffic influx on city roads.
“Last time when there were mass marriages in the city, we faced an influx of vehicles from nearby districts as well. We are planning to monitor the roads on Sunday to ensure smooth traffic flow,” a senior police officer said.
Start early
Since VIPs and other dignitaries are set to visit various venues in the city, traffic might be affected in some places, he cautioned.
To reduce the rush, people should follow some simple steps like car pooling and starting early to reach the venues, he advised.
