In what could perhaps be termed as ‘Guru dakshina’, the alumni of the prestigious Indian School of Business (ISB) have instituted an ‘Alumni Endowment Research Fellowship’ to support research by the faculty of the institution.

The first fellowship in the series, which is to be given annually, was awarded to Professor Krishnamurthy Subramanian (Subbu), Assistant Professor of Finance at ISB. He was selected by a committee of senior faculty members.  The objective of the award is to encourage alumni to support research in collaboration with the school and see the impact as a result of their support. This is in line with the ISB’s mission of focusing on research and also engaging the alumni body to work closely with the school, said ISB’s Dean, Ajit Rangnekar.

He said, “For a young school like ISB, we are looking at engaging with the alumni in various ways. They are involved in formulating the strategic management plan for the school and a group is actively looking at the next 10 years of the school’s growth trajectory, which will guide some of the school’s future initiatives.”

Prof. Subramanian conducts research on corporate finance, innovation, banking, and governance issues. He has worked with other junior faculty and has also mentored research associates through collaborations. Prof. Subramanian said such an award was instituted for the first time in India. Many business schools in the U.S. have such awards, he added.
