Was your name removed from the electoral list recently? You can now lodge a complaint with the Election Commission and apply for the inclusion of your name again.

Voters should check the presence of their names on the electoral list at their respective polling booths on December 8th and 15th, Chief Electoral Commissioner Bhanwar Lal said on Friday.

There have been allegations that names of people hailing from some regions were removed in Kukatpally and L.B. Nagar areas. Those who find their names missing from the list should re-apply and also lodge a complaint, Mr. Lal told reporters on Friday. The EC has appointed senior officials Mahender Reddy and Bhupal Reddy to oversee this process in Kukatpally and L.B. Nagar respectively.

“Since it is not possible to conduct a fresh house-to-house survey at this juncture, those whose names are missing should file specific complaints and strict action will be taken on the erring officials,” the CEO said. He also said city residents, irrespective of their place of origin, should get their names included in the voters’ list here.

“We are in the process of removing bogus voters and there could be a possibility that our staff may have removed some names by mistake. But those officials who remove names as a part of vendetta will be dealt with severely on a case-by-case basis, based on specific complaints,” he said. Applications for fresh voters and for corrections can also be submitted through the State Election Commission website.

Deadline extended

The Commission has also extended the deadline for the registration of new voters from December 10 to 17. New voters should apply for their cards at polling booths during the next two Sundays, and those with mistakes in their Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) can also apply for corrections, Mr. Bhanwar Lal said.

New voters and those applying for corrections will be given new electronic EPICs at the polling booths itself. There are still about 1.55 lakh duplicate voters in the Greater Hyderabad areas, while names of 1.18 crore bogus or duplicate voters have been removed throughout the State since 2010, he added.
