Two persons organising betting on IPL cricket matches were arrested along with five of their aides by the Saroornagar police of Cyberabad on Thursday.
Four laptops, 18 mobile phones, TV set and Rs. 19,600 were seized from the bookies - L. Kamalesh of Gujarat and P. Santosh Kumar of Hyderabad, L.B. Nagar DCP C. Ravi Varma said at a press conference.
The duo had been organising betting during the ongoing IPL season, for past fortnight.
They were inviting bets from a known group of punters from different parts of Hyderabad, the DCP said. On a tip-off, the police raided a penthouse in Radhika Residency in Thirumalanagar of Saroornagar the previous night and found the gang accepting bets on the match between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Kamalesh and Kumar had no previous history of organising this racket. They hired L. Chetan Kumar, K. Praveen Kumar, A. Shashivardhan Reddy, A. Naresh Goud and Viral R. Poppat to collect money from punters.
The five persons too were arrested.
