Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) on Monday rolled out a programme in association with Sulabh International from Hyderabad as part of a plan to ensure access for motoring public to clean toilets at its petrol bunks.

This is the first-of-its-kind arrangement, IOC Executive Director-Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Rahul Bhardwaj said about the tie up between the retail outlet dealers and Sulabh International.

Under the initiative, maintenance of the toilets at the fuel outlets has been entrusted to Sulabh, a well-known professional agency having expertise in the field. Mr.Bhardwaj was addressing the launch function at an IOC outlet on Raj Bhavan Road, which was attended by Member of Parliament Bandaru Dattatreya, MLA C.Ramachandra Reddy, Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin and GHMC Commissioner B.Janardhan Reddy.

The arrangement would ensure availability of clean toilets at the petrol bunks during the working hours. A person will be deployed at each fuel station exclusively for cleaning the toilets as well as the retail outlet premises.

For proper functioning, a supervisor is also being deployed for a group of five outlets. Sixty of 85 petrol bunks in Hyderabad have signed agreements for the Sulabh International serviced Swachh toilets. All these toilets are mapped to GHMC portal. The tie-up with Sulabh is likely to be extended to other areas also in the near future. IOC has 980 retail outlets in Telangana, a release from the national oil company said.

The collaboration would benefit Indian Oil by way of fulfilling the government’s objective of providing clean toilets at retail outlets. It is in line with the Centre's Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas had also directed public sector oil companies to make available clean toilets at all their ROs.
