There was mild panic and some commotion on the busy Jubilee Hils Road towards Madhapur in Hyderabad on Thursday afternoon when one of a three-member suspected inter-state robbers gang fired at a police party in civilian clothes, while being apprehended near Neeru’s showroom on Thursday afternoon.

A worker of the L&T Metro Rail was injured in the melee when police task force personnel led by Inspector Venkat Reddy accosted the gang just when they were about to waylay a cash collecting vehicle engaged by a private agency. The police was, apparently, tipped off about the gang’s plans to rob the cash and they were waiting at the spot to catch the gang red handed.

But, what the police party did not expect was the gang members to be carrying firearms, a senior police official disclosed while seeking anonymity. On being caught by the Inspector, one of the gang members pulled out a weapon and fired, which hit the metro rail worker nearby.

In the commotion, the gang members tried to flee but the police managed to apprehend two of the three gang members, the official said. Police officials had also revealed that two of the gang members belonged to Hyderabad while another hailed from Bangalore. Further details are awaited.
