International Children’s Film Festival from Nov. 8 to 14

State awaiting Centre’s decision to make Hyderabad the permanent venue

Hyderabad would be the venue for the 20th International Children’s Film Festival to be held from November 8 to 14.

The event would be jointly organised by the Children’s Film Society of India, Mumbai, Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, and the Telangana State Film Development Corporation.

As many as 295 films selected from across the world would be screened in 14 theatres in the twin cities and in other district headquarters during the festival. Prasads Imax would be the main venue for the film festival being participated by 93 countries.

Disclosing the arrangements for the event, State Minister for Cinematography and Animal Husbandry Thalasani Srinivas Yadav said here on Thursday that both the inaugural and the valedictory functions would be held at Shilpakala Vedika at Madhapur.

Organising committee

A 42-member organising committee with experts from various fields and headed by Chief Secretary as the Chairman was constituted for organising the event on a grand scale. A 19-member jury, including eight members from India, was also constituted. A total of 1,408 films from 108 countries were sent as entries to the CFSI to be screened in the festival and the CFSI appointed juries would shortlist the films to be screened, he said.

₹5.5 crore released

The Minister said the State government released ₹5.5 crore for organising the film festival. The State was awaiting the Centre’s decision to make Hyderabad the permanent venue for the Children’s Film Festival so that more theatres and facilities could be provided for the festival.

A total of 291 child delegates from various countries would participate in the festival along with 50 child delegates from the State, he said. For the differently-abled and mentally-challenged children, films would be screened at Telugu University auditorium.

Alongside the film festival, workshops would be organised at Jawahar Bal Bhavan every evening from November 9 to 13 with about 120 children.

About 45 RTC buses have been hired for the transport of 1.5 lakh children to the theatres.

FDC Chairman Rammohan Rao, Managing Director Navin Mittal and JMD Kishore Babu participated in the media conference.
