An 18-year-old intermediate student who consumed poison at her house in Rajendranagar seven days ago, died while undergoing treatment at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) on Sunday.
Mounika took the extreme step following the alleged harassment by a youngster, Venkatesh, in the name of love, police said. She was a student of a private college at Mehdipatnam.
According to police, Venkatesh went to Mounika’s college on December 30 and threatened her with dire consequences if she did not accept his proposal. Unable to bear the harassment, the girl returned home and consumed poison.
Finding her in an unconscious state, family members rushed her to OGH where she died on Sunday. Police registered a case against Venkatesh under Section 306 (abetting suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and took him into custody.
Youth ends life
In a separate case, a 25-year-old man ended his life by jumping into the Gandipet Lake on Sunday.
According to police, Srinu of Borabanda and his friend Ramadevi of Malakpet went to Gandipet in the evening. Srinu’s parents did not approve his relationship with Ramadevi, as she was a widow. An alert fisherman rescued Ramadevi, while Srinu drowned. Owing to bad light, police could not retrieve Srinu’s body.
