The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) is gearing up for its annual mega exercise of conducting intermediate examinations in the State. To begin with, the practical examinations this year will he held from February 6 to 25, while the theory examinations will be conducted from March 6 to 23.
A whopping 6, 67,319 students, including those from vocational stream would be taking practical examinations against 6, 33,571 students, who had appeared for the examinations last year. This year too, BIE authorities have decided against introducing the much-talked jumbling system for conducting the examinations.
Practical exams would be conducted in four spells at 2,814 centres across the State. Authorities would put into use the video cameras randomly to keep a tab on those indulging in malpractices at the centres.
A committee has been constituted with Collector as chairman, Superintendent of Police as vice-chairman, a principal and others in each district and this committee can order re-conduct of examination wherever malpractice was reported, said BIE secretary Rama Sankar Nair at a press conference here on Monday.
Further, if 25 per cent of candidates in a college secure 100 per cent marks in practical examinations, then the BIE would take measures for re-verification of the answer scripts of all those candidates. Appropriate action would be initiated against the college, lecturers and students, if they were involved in malpractice, he said.
This apart, valued answer script of candidates, who secure 27 to 30 marks in practical examinations, may also be re-verified by the BIE, he added. A 24-hour special control room will be functioning during the examinations.
