An insurance agent was apprehended by the city police on charges of organising cricket betting from his residence in Borabanda here on Saturday. Police said that the accused M. Ravi (35) was caught while indulging in betting with punters.They seized ₹80,300, a TV set and two mobile phones from his possession.
Following a tip-off, the sleuths of Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone Team apprehended Ravi, who was involved in gambling for the past one year and was in frequent contact with around 30 punters in the city,” said Gattu Mallu, inspector, Task Force (West Zone).
The accused was caught while accepting bets over cell phones for IPL-2018 Cricket Match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday.
Ravi, along with the seized property, was handed over to the SR Nagar police for further investigation.
He was later booked under section 3 and 4 of AP Gaming Act-1974.
