A local court here on Tuesday took cognizance of the petition moved against L.B. Nagar Inspector P. Srinivas Reddy for failing to implement the court order to register an First Information Report (FIR) against Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.
A few weeks ago, advocate N. Naresh Kumar filed a private petition in the second metropolitan magistrate court requesting for registration of a cheating case against the two Ministers for failing to keep their promise on the formation of a separate Telangana State.
The court then directed L.B. Nagar police to register an FIR and investigate the case.
“As Srinivas Reddy failed to register an FIR, we filed yet another petition requesting to take cognizance about not obeying the court orders and start trial against him. The court admitted my petition and recorded my statement. It posted the matter for further hearing on June 20,” Mr. Kumar added.
The court took cognizance against the Inspector under Section 166(A) of the IPC (public servant disobeying the law) and directed the officer to appear before it on June 20. On January 28, the court had directed the L B Nagar police to file an FIR, probe the allegations and also file a status report before it by February 14.
In his petition, Kumar had mentioned the statements of Sushil Kumar Shinde and Chidambaram on the Telangana statehood issue and sought the court’s directions to refer the matter to the police for investigation and registration of a case under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
During the all-party meeting convened by the Centre on Telangana in Delhi on December 28 last year, Sushil Kumar Shinde had allegedly claimed that the Telangana issue would be resolved within “a month.”
On December 9, 2009, P Chidambaram, who was Union Home Minister at that time, had also allegedly announced initiation of a process to create a Telangana state.
Both the Ministers didn’t keep their promises and thus cheated the people of Telangana, Mr. Naresh Kumar contended.
