Vanasthalipuram police Inspector Y. Venkat Reddy was on Tuesday arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, allegedly for demanding a bribe of Rs. 25,000 from a complainant to arrest the accused in a cheating case.

The tainted sum was recovered from the Inspector who was in his chamber, ACB officials said. A businessman, Narsing Rao, had approached police, accusing a person, Y. Sharat Babu, of cheating him by issuing a bank cheque which was dishonoured by the bank.

A cheating case was registered against Babu. The Inspector allegedly demanded a bribe to arrest Babu.
