‘Innovators’ open up!

Innovative ideas aided with technology can solve some of the most pressing civic and daily issues of the city--this is what some of the budding entrepreneurs set out to prove on Saturday.

At the ‘Hyderabad Urban Hackathon’ held at Indian School of Business (ISB) about 390 teams registered to put forward their concepts and solutions in sync with the theme “Social innovation and digital technology”. The event, an initiative of GHMC and ISB, is being organised as part of the XI Metropolis World Congress 2014.

The participating teams of the Hyderabad Urban Hackathon pitched technological solutions among 15 focus areas, which include topics such as Intelligent Transport Systems, Urban Mobility Sanitation and Waste Management, Water Supply, Housing for All Smart Cities, Parking Management, Lake Security, Women and General Safety Surveillance, Slum Management besides, others.

Speaking on the initiative, the chief guest and IT Minister K.T. Ramarao said, “I feel proud seeing the participation and enthusiasm by the citizens towards brand Hyderabad and making Smart Cities a reality.”

Out of the 390 teams registered, 80 will be short-listed . The participants can consult the participating IT companies, officials of Metropolis Congress and government of Telangana.

The concepts at the Pre-Hackathon will form the agenda for the final Hackathon event to be held at the XI-Metropolis World Congress-2014 at HICC from October 6 to 10.

At the final event, the five best solutions will be awarded and given an incubation opportunity by the Government of Telangana in association with ISB.
