An 11-month-old baby boy was kidnapped by a man in his mid 30s at Singareni Colony huts in Saidabad on Friday morning.

Vadtya Vatcha, uncle of the boy Virat, was carrying the infant in his arms outside his hut around 7.30 am when his wife asked him to collect drinking water from the public tap. “A man, who had been roaming in the locality for past four to five days, was hanging around there. I left the boy in his custody asking him to take care of the infant till I collect the water,” Mr. Vatcha, elder brother of the boy’s father Mr. Deva, told the police.

It took nearly 30 minutes for him to fill the vessels with the water and put them inside the hut. He had forgotten about the infant by then and got busy with his daily chores, the Saidabad Inspector A. Srinivasulu said.

Nearly three hours later, the boy’s mother came to him and asked for her son. When Mr. Vatcha told her that the boy was left in the care of stranger, she started looking out for that man who had disappeared with the boy.

Based on the complaint lodged by Mr. Vatcha, the Saidabad police registered a case of kidnap and are searching for the abductor.
