It was not just the citizens, who were anxiously waiting about the Congress party’s decision on Telangana, industry representatives from the information technology, pharma and others in the capital too were apprehensive about the announcement. But once the announcement came on Tuesday, they heaved a sigh of relief.
FAPCCI president Srinivas Ayyadevara said the announcement had cleared the ambiguity. Though there could be unrest for couple of years, it would pave way for development of Hyderabad and other parts of the State.
It is true that Hyderabad’s brand image had suffered a bit due to different reasons but things would now fall back in line. However, lot depends on the policies and the support extended by the government, and a conducive atmosphere is required for the industrial growth, he added.
Echoing similar feelings, Confederation of Indian Industries, AP Chapter Chairman and Infotech Limited president (HR, Corporate Affairs) Ashok Reddy said the State had suffered a slowdown on the economic front, mostly due to these uncertainties, in the last two years.
“Now that a decision is taken, it augurs well for the industry,” said Mr. Reddy. He was optimistic that Hyderabad city would continue on its growth path.
Talent Sprint Executive Chairman J.A.Chowdary said the industry both in the capital and the State was badly affected due to uncertainty over Telangana.
“Due to the delay, industries were adopting a wait-and-watch policy and were worried about different issues, including safety of employees. Now we expect the investments would be back in Hyderabad, but lot depends on the leadership and governance,” said Mr. Chowdary.
Pegasystems India Vice President and Managing Director Suman Reddy said: “While we cannot assess the long-term impact of the decision on Telangana right now, the immediate impact in terms of ending the uncertainty surrounding the matter should bring back stability in the business environment of the city”.
“Information Technology companies invested in Hyderabad owing to the availability of good infrastructure and talent which gives it a competitive advantage over other States. More companies would invest in Hyderabad, if they are assured of a stable business environment, devoid of regular bandhs and protests,” he said.
