Two services -- a daily bulletin on Ocean State Forecast along shipping routes and ‘High-resolution Operational Ocean Forecast (HOOFS) -- will be launched by Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) during the fifth user interaction workshop here on Tuesday.
While the service on ocean state forecast will be started for the Chennai-Port Blair and Kolkata-Port Blair routes, it will later be extended to other standard routes in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. Information will be available to passenger ships, cargo ships, oil tankers, navy and coast guard vessels. The ocean state forecast will provide information on winds, waves, sea currents, atmospheric pressure and rainfall, besides warning on high waves, swells and cyclones for two days, according to a press release.
