Family members of two youngsters, Daddi Vinod Kumar (20) and Kishore Kumar (25), who received grievous injuries in two separate road accidents, decided to donate their organs and give fresh lease of life to 11 needy patients.

The deceased, who had serious head injuries, were in critical condition and had no hope left for revival before doctors declared them brain dead, Jeevandan officials on Monday said.

On December 13, Vinod Kumar, hailing from Sarapaka village in Bhadrachalam, working as taxi driver, was driving nine Sabarimala devotees to Srisailam.

According to relatives, Vinod lost control of the car due to a tyre burst at Mylavaram town in Krishna district. While one devotee died on the spot, a critically injured Vinod was first taken to Help Hospital in Vijayawada and later, on December 14, was shifted to Global Hospitals, Lakdikapul.

Friends and relatives of Vinod, who were contacted by transplant coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Dr. Bhanu Chandra, agreed to donate his organs.

The second victim, Kishore Kumar, a software engineer working in Hyderabad, was injured in an accident on Road No. 2, Banjara Hills, on December 8. Onlookers immediately shifted him to Apollo Hospitals. According to Jeevandan officials, father of the deceased, Prabhakar, gave his consent for organ donation.

“We retrieved two kidneys, liver and two heart valves, which helped five needy patients to survive. Our grief counsellor U. Eshwar contacted the father, who readily accepted to donate organs,” Jeevandan officials said.

Two kidneys, one liver, heart and two eyes were harvested from the deceased Vinod for six needy patients.
