CPI national general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy condemned the TRS Ministers’ verbal attack against Telangana Joint Action Committee’s chairman M. Kodandram, and advised them to observe restraint and balance in their statements.

Questioning the unprecedented ire expressed by 12 Ministers against Prof. Kodandram, Mr. Reddy said a few among them were sitting in ivory towers during the Telangana movement when Prof. Kodandram and his supporters were being lathi-charged by the police.

“They are claiming that no JAC exists after Telangana State formation. If there is no JAC, what is causing them such agitation? If they question the reason of TJAC after achievement of Telangana State, we will have to question the purpose of TRS too in the same vein,” he said, while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday.

The government had no answer to the questions posed by Prof. Kodandram, and hence the severe language. Instead, they could come back with answers supported by data, as to the compensation delivered to the families of the farmers who committed suicide, and allocations made for drought relief.

“Prof. Kodandram waited for two years to launch this criticism. He was questioning compensation being paid in lieu of land acquisition, which bypassed the legislation passed by Parliament. If you have an answer, please part with it in a balanced way. You resort to abuses when you have no answer,” he said, castigating the Ministers.

In a separate statement, he condemned abuse and threats issued to academic and writer Kancha Ilaiah, and expressed the party’s solidarity with him.
