City-based entrepreneur Karunakara M. Reddy was honoured with the ‘Jal Daan Water Hero’ award for his work of providing safe drinking water through community water plants.

The award was given by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the presence of film actor Madhuri Dixit in Mumbai on Friday. Mr. Reddy, through his company Smaat India Pvt. Ltd, installed water plants in rural areas and urban slums in India, which was successful in providing potable water to rural communities, a press release said.

Smaat is partnering with corporate companies, banks, and village organisations to facilitate rural India with safe drinking water at an affordable cost. To add to the existing projects, Smaat is going to launch another project of 10,000 water plants in rural areas by 2020.
