Hyderabad and Delhi airports are top class. Waxing eloquent on the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in the city, London Mayor Boris Johnson said a similar airport would be built in East London.
Mr. Johnson visited RGIA and the Delhi airport in November 2012 and had expressed his desire to emulate these models to create a new airport in East London as the present international airport at Heathrow was running at 98 per cent capacity.
“A majority of people from South Asian community live in East London area and an airport there will be of immense help to them,” Mr. Johnson said.
He said London needed to catch up with India when it comes to aviation capacity.
“Heathrow has no space for new planes to land. London should learn from India on how to expand aviation space. I want to emulate India and create a new hub airport in the east of London,” he said.
