The Cyberabad police arrested a man claiming to be chairman of International Human Rights (IHR) organisation, India branch, and 16 of his associates on charge of extortion, cheating and threatening people. The police seized a Skoda car, Honda CRV, Maruti A Star car, two motorcycles and land documents collected by him from different people after raiding his house-cum-office at Dundigal.
The accused person, Mohammed Saadath Ahmed alias Saadath, along with his followers extorted money, settled civil disputes and marital issues by threatening people.
“Saadath called victims to his office and pressurised them to settle land disputes and marital discords. In few cases the gang prepared fake documents and collected money from property owners. He also took money from gullible people promising to appoint them as presidents of local branches of IHR,” DCP Balanagar A.R. Srinivas said.
Five cases were registered against him and his associates in Jeedimetla while two cases were registered in Dundigal police stations limits during last few years. He was also arrested earlier in Medak district but failed to mend his ways, the official added.
The police have appealed to people facing trouble from such organisations to come forward and lodge complaints.
