Thousands visit the Numaish everyday, and the exhibition is in full flow. But, how serious are the authorities about the security of visitors? Despite strict instructions from the city police, parking lot managers at Numaish allow vehicles to enter without the mandatory check.

According to security guidelines, all vehicles entering the parking area should be thoroughly inspected. “What if a terrorist plants a bomb on a parked vehicle?” asks Venu Gopal, a visitor.

A many as 15 parking avenues have come up between Mozamjahi market and Nampally. And, they are mostly managed by private individuals.

Youngsters who are put in charge of the parking avenues are unaware of the security implications which could result in a disaster, fears Syed Arshad, a businessman.

Theft of fuel

There are complaints about inadequately lit parking areas, thanks to the authorities shifting street lights owing to the Metro Rail work. Moreover, theft of fuel from parked vehicles is rampant, a fact that the exhibition society members admit.

Meanwhile, the exhibition society claims to have foolproof security plan, with volunteers and security personnel, apart from police, maintaining vigil.

“We take care of the security at the exhibition grounds, and police maintain a vigil outside the venue,” says Aswin Margam, honorary secretary, exhibition society.

Police maintain that the parking stand managements have been asked to take necessary precautions.

“We have already issued instructions in this regard and will follow it up. Our teams maintain a watch around the exhibition grounds,” a senior police officer says.
