Unidentified persons murdered a housewife and took away gold ornaments she wore in Vijayapuri colony of Chaitanyapuri during daytime on Tuesday.
Forty-year-old Rajani was alone in the house after her husband, Sampath, manager of Yashoda hospital, left for office. Her son was away in college while her father-in-law went out on some work. The woman was supposed to go for shopping with her younger sister around 2 p.m. but didn't answer the telephone call when the latter rang up repeatedly arousing suspicions. Her sister called up Sampath and told him that Rajani was not answering the telephone calls. Sampath in turn called up his son to rush home and find out what had happened. The family members found the front door bolted from inside while the rear door adjacent to kitchen was ajar. They rushed the woman, who was found lying unconscious, to a near-by hospital where doctors declared her brought dead, the Chaitanyapuri Inspector, P. Praveen Kumar, said. The forensic doctors opined the killers smothered her to death after performing autopsy. No external injuries were found on her body. Neighbours told the police that two strangers came in a Maruti car and went inside. “We're verifying reports that some shouts were heard suggesting an altercation between the victim and the strangers,” police said.
