The district administration has embarked upon building repairs of educational institution, especially hostel buildings, in view of the summer vacation. The work would be completed before the reopening of the hostels, District Collector Manickraj Kannan said.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, the Collector said that the district administration had chalked out a number of activities for the students during the course of the academic year and as part of that would hold constituency-level and district-level competitions in handwriting and speech.

While handwriting competition would be conducted for the students from classes 4th to 6th, elocution competitions would be held for students from classes 8th to 10th. Students who win in these competitions would be rewarded suitably, he added.

“Addressing small gatherings will increase the confidence among students and they would be able to nurture their leadership qualities right from an early age,” said Mr. Manickraj.

Development work

Elaborating on other development programmes taken up by the district administration, the Collector said that the work had begun on identification and setting up of graveyards and garbage collection and dumping yards in every village. They would soon be completed, he added.

Answering a question, the Collector said that almost 75% of the bank accounts in the district were already linked with Aadhaar and work was on to complete the Aadhaar seeding of all bank accounts.
