Hookah parlour management booked

ID proof, age proof of customers not maintained, say police

Three persons were apprehended for violating the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act when the West Zone task force conducted a surprise check at a hookah parlour in Jubilee Hills.

The accused were identified as Mohammed Zeeshan Ahmed (31), D Mahendar (29) and Syed Moinuddin (24).

While Ahmed is the proprietor, Mahender is the manager and Moinuddin is a worker at the cafe.

The trio was accused of not maintaining ID proof or proof of age of customers and not installing signage of designated smoking and no-smoking zones.

Cops said over 30% of the floor space was smoking area without airflow system.

Police seized 33 hookahs, 17 hookah flavour boxes, 40 hookah pipes, six walkie-talkies and ₹8,890.

This is the second time in eight months that the cops have booked cases against the management for similar violations.
