The HMDA has plans for 27 Transit Oriented Development (TOD) initiatives within the Outer Ring Road (ORR), 13 on the ORR, apart from 13 urban nodes and 46 urban centres outside ORR.
The Metropolitan Development Plan-2031 plans several development works in an area of over 5,985 sq km, spread over four districts surrounding Hyderabad.
The meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday ratifying the Metropolitan Development Plan-2031 also approved proposals to develop the Hyderabad Habitat Centre on the lines of India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, at a cost of Rs. 134 crore.
The HHC will be developed on a 11-acre site at Khanamet, with a visual arts gallery, sculpture courts, artiplex theatres, learning centres, convention facilities, theme parks, landscape gardens, open air theatre and food courts.
The 83-acre Science City at Budvel, at a cost of Rs. 160 crore, which will host a space station, earth pavilion, an energy park, Imax 9D Virtual Reality, futuristic technologies and centres of excellence, was also discussed.
The Education Hub at Jawaharnagar on the city outskirts, with focus on world-class graduate and postgraduate education, apart from an Eco Park on 85 acres at Kothwalguda was discussed by the board.
The meeting also had on its agenda the Land Pooling Scheme, protection and conservation of lakes and water bodies and Hussainsagar Lake and Catchment Area Improvement Project.
The Chief Minister wanted the ongoing works, including lake preservation, development and beautification, radial roads, etc., to be expedited.
SCB Master Plan
The meeting also approved a proposal on preparing a Master Plan for the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB). Spread over 42 sq.km, the SCB does not have a Master Plan though the HMDA with a jurisdiction of 7,257 sq. km has five Master Plans.
A Green Channel concept offering development permissions on a fast track basis within seven working days is to be reintroduced in a phased manner with the applicability initially restricted to layout approvals.
Other projects include the Comprehensive Transportation System (CTS) and the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Master Plan for HMA, first of its kind in the country for which HMDA had entered into an MoU with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
