January 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Preparing the ground for an Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) around the city, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to come up with a master plan for the identified area spread over 202 sq. km. The process of calling and identifying consultants for the job was set in motion early this week.

To promote investment in IT/ITeS and electronic hardware sector, the Union government has resolved to set up ITIRs in different States and approved the proposal for an ITIR in an area of 49,913 acres (202 sq. km) in and around the Hyderabad Metropolitan Area. The identified areas comprise the Cyberabad Development Authority (CDA) including Gachibowli and Madhapur, Hyderabad Airport Development Authority (HADA) covering Mamidipalli, Raviryal, Adibatla and Maheswaram apart from Uppal and Pocharam.

The area identified for ITIR will have around 41 per cent (82.4 square km) earmarked as processing area i.e., IT office space, and this in turn, will comprise Greenfield area development of 76.9 sq. km and the rest 5.5 sq. km covering existing IT developments in Madhapur, Gachibowli and Nanakramguda areas, categorised as Brownfield area. The HMDA expects the proposed ITIR to have linkages with the existing IT/ ITeS and Electronic Hardware Manufacturing (EHM) base and several major players reportedly showed interest in moving here.

The consultants to be selected by the HMDA will be expected to prepare a master plan, land use plan and investment plan for an orderly development of ITIR and come up with a broad mapping of demographic, socio-economic characteristics, physical and social infrastructure facilities of the region.

Available amenities, environmental aspects apart from air, road and rail connectivity too are to be assessed for the entire area. It has also been decided to go in for a revision of existing master plans covering the identified area and tailor them to suit the requirements of ITIR.
