Her dad is a celebrity who can make his eyes cry or smile as the scene demands. Her mother is no less accomplished an actor. And this pretty lass too has a runaway success to her credit.
Now, if you thought these were enough for her to be haughty, you’ve got it wrong. She is as down-to-earth and she conceals her not-so-ok Telugu with a dazzling smile that makes one instantly think of Sarika and Kamal Haasan. That’s the Bhagyalakshmi of Gabbar Singh and Shruti of Balupu fame for you.
Ask her how it feels hitting the spotlight twice in a row and she smiles.
“Hits or flops do not affect me as I am focussed on work. But surely, I’m hoping for a hat-trick with Yevadu with Ram Charan,” she says in a tone that betrays her humility.
Has she ever been weighed down by the fact she has a father who enjoys a Viswaroopam, a larger-than-life image among movie buffs?
“Never; he has always been Kamal Haasan my father, at home. So has my mother Sarika, who has seen her share of success in her time. My dad and mum have always been supportive of me while allowing me to make my own choices,” she declares.
Shruti, who began her tryst with the Telugu film industry with Anaganaga O Dheerudu in January 2011, followed it up with Oh! My Friend in November the same year. While both films drew critical acclaim and made people take notice, she really drew the spotlight upon her with director Harish Shankar’s Gabbar Singh .
Going by her rather serious demeanour, people do not generally associate her with humour.
“Life has a lot of comedy and I am actually like that, off-screen. So when Harish Shankar suggested me to director Gopichand for Balupu , I was happy taking it. I am thus grateful to Harish for both Gabbar Singh and Balupu . I have proved that I am capable of moulding myself to the character demanded by the director. I do not want to stereotyped and hence I’m trying to be different, looking out for challenging roles,” says this beauty-with-brains.
