The heavy rains that lashed the city and suburbs this week had left the roads badly battered at most parts and giving tough times for vehicles and drivers. Potholes, pockmarked stretches and muddy tracks at some points have made negotiating most road stretches a nervous affair, particular during the nights.

Among the most affected during recent rains were the roads in the happening Hi-Tec City, Kukatpally, Miyapur and stretching down till Serilingampally.

No other go

Those driving down from Tarnagar towards Gachibowli just get stuck at the underpass near the Serilingampally station as the small stretch has been badly affected.

“I tried to avoid this underpass and took a smaller duct down towards the railway station and skid down there. Every rain, the situation is same here but no lasting solution is brought forward by the municipal authorities,” said Eshwar Reddy, a resident of Taranagar. Many other residents echoed his views.

Several stranded

The spinal road at Hi-Tec City MMTS too took a beating and when it rained, had scores stranded for hours. Same has been the situation with large number of residential colonies from Diptisrinagar colony, Madinaguda to those that mushroomed at Miyapur along the prestigious road leading from city towards Mumbai and not forgetting the highway users who got affected.

Roads peeled off at regular intervals and muddy pools end up giving some rough moments to drivers as they struggle to negotiate the stretches with their vehicles. “The authorities should take the restoration work on war footing else we will be troubled badly this season,” said J.Ramesh Babu at Madinaguda.

The quality of the road laying work gets into sharp focus as many question the authorities for failing to ensure good stretches that could withstand the rain.

“So much is announced as being spent on the roads but apparently things are not right. Why is that a couple of rains end up leaving us with bad road stretches,” bemoaned Praveen Kumar, a software professional at Kukatpally Housing Board.

Once the water recedes completely and if there are no immediate spells again, the actual condition of road stretches at many places could be unveiled.
