High Court okays government decision to hold PGMET again

April 26, 2014 01:09 am | Updated May 21, 2016 01:22 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The A.P. High Court has upheld the government’s decision to conduct the PGMET-2014 again, after the question paper leakage scam broke out. The exam was earlier conducted in March. The test would now be held as announced by the authorities, the court said.

Justice P. Naveen Rao issued orders dismissing writ petitions filed by Dr. Vikram Reddy and others, who argued that the authorities should have identified students who were beneficiaries of the wrongdoings, and refuse only to them the PG medical seats. The others should not be made to suffer.

Justice Rao said several innocent students could be victimised on account of a few greedy people, but it had to be tolerated for the larger interests of society. The judge concluded that greed in this case was like cancer and it could not be isolated. The court hoped that enough alarm bells had rung. The government informed the court that the brokers and students who got the leaked question paper had been arrested and that an investigation was on.

Justice Rao said, “This case is a glaring example of systemic failure and a malady that is set in all public examinations”.
