High Court judge faults KMC attitude

January 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Justice A. Rajasekhar Reddy of the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday expressed deep displeasure at the attitude of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (KMC) for not only not compensating the citizen whose land was taken for road widening but also trying to mislead the court by filing false affidavits.

He was dealing with a writ petition filed by Punna Bai of Sikwadi, Karimnagar, who complained that her building and land were taken for road widening but no money was paid, nor were any alternate shops given for her livelihood. The corporation officers tried to tell the court that the petitioner and others voluntarily gave land and demolished the structures within their lands with their cost and did not seek compensation.

The judge called for records and pulled up the officers. At one stage Justice Reddy expressed dismay over the contradictory stand taken by the officers.

He said it is unbecoming of the officers to file false affidavits.

The authorities were directed to allot shops which were already constructed in Karimnagar or pay money within three months.
