A high alert was sounded in the State, including the State capital, on Wednesday night following the serial blasts in Pune, Maharashtra.

The Chief Minister, N.Kiran Kumar Reddy, directed the DGP, V. Dinesh Reddy, to review the situation and take precautions in the wake of fears of a fresh bout of terror strike.

The DGP instructed the superintendents of police in the districts and police commissioners of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam to be vigilant and step up security measures.

The Hyderabad and Cyberabad police conducted extensive vehicle checking at different points and subjected commuters to frisking. Patrolling was also increased at different places and the security situation at public places witnessing large congregations was reviewed.

The Musheerabad police caught a youngster possessing a sickle while randomly checking passengers of a city bus on Musheerabad main road. He was identified as Ramesh of Madanapalle in Chittoor and was being interrogated.
