All the key departments have been put on alert in view of the heavy rains forecast by the Met Department.

Special Chief Secretary, Revenue, B.R. Meena held a review meeting on disaster management at the Secretariat here on Friday. Of the 584 mandals in 31 districts, more than normal rainfall was recorded in 425 mandals and 95 mandals received normal rainfall.

About 60 mandals recorded less rainfall and four mandals have been witnessing paucity of rains. While 111.4 mm of rainfall was recorded in June last year, 170.5 mm rainfall was recorded this year.

Mr. Meena directed the Agriculture Department Commissioner to keep seeds and fertilisers ready for the farmers in view of good rains. The rising water level in reservoirs be monitored regularly by the Irrigation Department officials to prevent loss of life and property due to cloud bursts and flash floods. The railway tracks near rivers and tanks should be inspected regularly, he said.

About 10 lakh hectares has been sown so far as against 7.32 lakh hectares in the corresponding period last year. The normal sown area for the entire season is 43.24 lakh hectares.

The Health Department officials were directed to conduct medical camps to prevent spreading of seasonal diseases. The veterinary department was asked to take preventive measures and curb incidence of diseases among animals.

Emphasising on quality of drinking water, Mr. Meena said focus should be on preventing contamination of drinking water by Rural Water Supply and municipal authorities. The police and fire departments should be ready to swing into action in case of emergencies. Every month, review meetings would be held on disaster management during the four-month monsoon season, he said.
