With temperature exceeding 42 degrees Celsius in Hyderabad and many parts of the State on Friday, the India Meteorological Department has warned that heat wave conditions will continue in isolated places of the State till May 24. However, the city experienced some respite from the heat with thunderstorm activity in the evening and scattered showers accompanied by gale late in the night.
During day, Hyderabad recorded 42.5 degrees, a three-degree jump in maximum temperature over the previous day even as other parts of the State too saw a similar jump. According to Skymet Weather, there is likely to be no relief from the hot weather over the next three days due to absence of pre-monsoon activity.
The IMD Hyderabad Centre said Nalgonda recorded maximum temperature of 46 degrees Celsius, almost five degrees more than the normal, on Friday.
It was closely followed by Ramagundam - 45.8 degrees, Bhadrachalam -45.4, Khammam- 45.2 , Nizamabad - 44.9 , Adilabad- 44.8 , Hanamakonda- 44.5, Medak- 43.7 and Mahabubnagar-43.1 degrees.
Hyderabad was relatively better with a maximum temperature of 42.5 degrees and Hakimpet - 40.7.
The gradual rise of maximum temperatures was likely over north and eastern parts of the State and they might go up 4 degrees to six degrees above normal at least a few days during the week and in the range of 43 degrees o 46 degrees. The remaining part of the State was expected to be in the range of 39 degrees to 43 degrees.
The minimum temperature would be in the range of 27 degrees to 30 degrees during the week.
Giving the forecast for the next week, Telangana State Development Planning Society, based on the Weather Model run by it and other available guidance from IMD and other Centres, said dry weather conditions would be due to the prevailing north-south-oriented trough moving eastwards and passing through coastal Andhra Pradesh with westerly to northwesterly winds over Telangana.
Interestingly, keeping the hot weather in mind, the General Administration Department made a kind gesture to supply Oral Rehydration salt sachets to visitors coming to the Secretariat as well as its employees, security and sanitation staff.
The GAD officials, who noticed that the visitors coming to the Secretariat for various issues were facing hardships due to hot and oppressive weather , decided to distribute ORS sachets till the temperatures came down. These sachets would be distributed at the canteen and at the GAD. Principal Secretary Adhar Sinha and other officials gave away the ORS sachets on Friday.
