Health panels to look into surrogacy

July 06, 2017 12:58 am | Updated 12:59 am IST - HYDERABAD

The health administration has constituted committees to study issues pertaining to clinical trials and surrogacy in the wake of recent developments in the State.

Raids conducted at two infertility clinics in the State last month raised ethical and legal questions over surrogacy, but the government could not proceed legally straightaway given the legal vacuum pertaining to the matter.

Similarly, reports of clinical trials being conducted by subverting norms have reached the government. The committees on surrogacy and clinical trials comprise a retired judge, health officials and doctors. A committee on clinical establishment was also constituted. Report is to be submitted within 30 days.

The government has given the committees 30 days to submit a study report on the subjects.
