Moulana Nayeemullah Khan, who headed the Tableeghi Jamaat in the State for over four decades, passed away here on Thursday afternoon after a prolonged illness. He was 89.
Reverentially addressed as ‘Amire Mohtaram’, Nayeemullah Khan dedicated his life for ‘dawah’ work.
Nayeemullah Khan, who served as the Joint Secretary, Law, took active interest in the Tableeghi movement soon after his retirement in 1986. Of late he had stopped addressing religious congregations due to old age. But he offered ‘dua’ for which people hung around. He was a regular figure at the weekly ‘mashwara’ programmes of the Tableeghi Jamaat at the Jamia Masjid, Mallepally.
As news of his death spread, hundreds of Tableeghi workers rushed to Nayeemullah Khan’s house in Mallepally. A large number of Muslims took part in the ‘Namaz-e-Janaza’ held at Idgah Bilali, Shantinagar, around 11 p.m. His mortal remains were later laid to rest at the graveyard adjacent to the Aalamgiri Masjid in Shantinagar.
