A head constable of Pahadishareef police station who allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs. 4,500 from an auto rickshaw driver was trapped by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Monday.

The accused, Janardhan, a head constable working at the police station sought a bribe from Mohd Aleem, an auto driver of RCI Balapur for doing an official favour.

Aleem was allegedly involved in a road accident reported on February 9 and a case was registered in this regard at the Pahadishareef police station. However, a few days ago, Aleem reached a compromise with the accident victim, Narsimha and paid him to Rs. 20,000 towards treatment cost, ACB officials said.

“A few days ago Aleem approached the head constable and asked him to release his vehicle. Initially, the head constable demanded Rs. 5,000 for the job, but brought it down to Rs. 4, 500,” Anti-Corruption Bureau, Ranga Reddy DSP, M Prabhakar said.

Instead of paying the bribe, Aleem along with his relative approached the ACB officials. On Monday, the ACB officials trapped the head constable when the latter accepted the bribe from Aleem in the police station. “He took complainant inside the record room and collected the bribe of Rs. 4,500 from him. The amount was recovered from Janardhan,” the official added.

He will be produced before the ACB court on Tuesday. Mr. Prabhakar appealed the public to contact the ACB on 94404-46140 in case anyone demands a bribe.
