: Justice P. Naveen Rao of the AP HC on Tuesday refused to lift the stay orders restraining Army authorities from closing the main roads leading to Safilguda, Malkajgiri areas through the Secunderabad Cantonment area. The judge made this order while dismissing petitions filed by Army authorities to vacate the stay.

It may be recalled that Army authorities had initially sought closure of five roads citing security reasons. This was challenged by citizens contending that lakhs of people commute on these roads daily. The judge gave an interim stay that was later extended. Meanwhile, the Army sought closure of more roads which was stayed by the court. The judge had asked the officers from district administration, GHMC, State government, Cantonment Board and Army to find an amicable solution. As the authorities failed to do so, Justice Naveen Rao directed the Chief Secretary to call another meeting to discuss the issue threadbare. Hearing is in the last week of June.
