HC orders notices to TS Govt on temple offerings

A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Shameem Akther on Tuesday ordered notices in a writ petition filed challenging the offering by the Telangana government of gold ornaments to temples through its Chief Minister.

In a PIL, Kancha Ilaiah and Ramulu had contended that such offering at the expense of the Common Good Fund was unconstitutional.

Illegal structures

The division bench sought response in a case pertaining to mushrooming of illegal structures using the Building Regularisation /penalisation scheme. The bench was treating news items in a Telugu daily as PIL. The news stories alleged that with collusion of some officers illegal structures were coming up.

Revanth petition

The Acting Chief Justice and Justice Shameem Akther said they would examine in due course the petition filed by Revanth Reddy, TDP MLA, challenging his expulsion from the Telangana Assembly. While the charge against him was that he had interrupted the speech of the Governor, the speech was not part of proceedings of the House. He said other opposition members walked out and there was no action.

Finance commission

The same division bench ordered notices in a case filed seeking constitution of Finance Commission for Telangana.

The bench was dealing with a case filed by Forum for Good Governance, through Padmanabha Reddy. The petitioner contended that as per Article 243-I of the Constitution, every state shall constitute a finance commission.

BCCI arguments

Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Shameem Akther said they would hear further arguments on Wednesday on the request of the BCCI to appoint an administrator to the HCA.

PIL on SBI

A division bench ordered notices in a PIL filed challenging “inaction” on the part of the State Bank of India to prevent the use of official symbol of SBI by private companies.

The bench was dealing with a case filed by VB Krishna Murthy. He said SBI life insurance, and SBI general insurance, though private companies, were using the name and logo of the SBI.

SCCL jobs

A division bench comprising Justice Ramasubramanian and Justice Umadevi reserved orders in a case filed challenging the scheme in Singareni Collieries (SCCL) providing employment to dependent persons of the employees on compassionate grounds.

The case was filed by Satish Kumar, an unemployed youth.
