A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Ganga Rao on Tuesday issued notices to the Telangana government, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner, Fire Services authorities and management of the Prasad Multiplex in a case filed complaining that the authorities were not taking action against the management of Prasad Multiplex for not following safety norms.

The bench was dealing with a taken-up case based on a letter by Vijay Gopal, a city resident. He submitted that IMAX Large Screen theatre at Prasad Multiplex, which had 635 seats spread across 14 columns and 47 seats in a single row, did not have any passage or gangway for the patrons to leave in the event of an emergency. He had complained to the police and fire service authorities but there had been no action, he submitted.

Encroachments

The division bench directed the Hyderabad Metropolitan Sessions Judge to depute a judicial officer to inspect the alleged encroachments on pavements at Siddiamber Bazar and Mahabubgunj areas of the city and submit the report.

The bench was dealing with a PIL filed by Lakshmi Nivas Agarwal complaining that the authorities had not removed encroachments on pavements in the area.

Cost escalation

The division bench directed the Telangana government and the BHEL to file counter-affidavits in three weeks in a case filed complaining of escalation of cost of Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PLRLIS).
