A Division Bench of the A.P. High Court comprising Chief Justice P. C. Ghose and Justice Vilas Afzulpurkar on Tuesday granted two weeks time to the State Government to take action against those identified by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) as involved in the liquor scam.
The Bench was hearing two writ petitions field by O. M. Debara and advocate P.V. Krishnaiah seeking inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the liquor scam.
On Tuesday, the Bench was informed that ACB had recommended action against 1,122 officers involved in the scam and the government had issued orders against 929 officers.
The government pleader requested the court to grant four weeks for further action. The Bench, however, refused and said action should be initiated in two weeks.
It may be recalled that the bench in its earlier hearing had asked for a full report on action taken after ACB probe.
On Tuesday, the government pleader placed a report before the court on action taken. He said 24 bribe cases, 22 benami cases and two cases of criminal misconduct were registered.
Besides, prosecution was proposed against 138 private persons and prosecution proposals against 84 officers were received by the government. It had issued prosecution orders against 929 officers as against a total of 1,122 and action would be taken against the remaining in another four weeks.
The bench refused the plea and adjourned the case hearing.
Orders reserved on Brahmananda bail plea
Justice B. Seshasayana Reddy of the AP High Court on Tuesday reserved orders in the bail petition filed by Brahmananda Reddy, a former State official and one of the accused in the Vanpic case.
The official allegedly favoured Vanpic, the company associated with Nimmagadda Prasad and jeopardised public interest in the process. The Vanpic case is part of the larger prosecution against Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in the illegal assets case.
