June 10, 2014 01:34 am | Updated 01:34 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar directed the Hyderabad Police Commissioner to submit a report on the problem of beggars in the city, asking him to probe if there were organised gangs operating.

The bench was hearing a PIL filed by G. Bhargavi, president of the Gareeb Guide, seeking a direction to the Telangana Government to implement a ban on begging. She alleged that children were being abducted and forced to beg. The petitioner pleaded with the court to direct the government to provide rehabilitation to the beggars. The bench adjourned the case by four weeks.
