Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has directed the Karimnagar district administration to complete work on canals of Mid Manair Dam (MMD) Project on a war footing.

The officials concerned should expeditiously complete acquisition of 200 acres required Package 8 of the project. The Government had decided to ensure storage of at least 10 tmcft water in Mid Manair Project and had accordingly closed the four reverse sluices, he said. The Minister held video conference with the collectors of districts under the jurisdiction of the project on Wednesday.

He stressed on the need for the Karimnagar District Collector to go to the field to resolve problems relating to land acquisition and the presence of Irrigation and Revenue officials at the field level. Such exercise would help identify the problems related to canal work and ensure their on the spot redressal, he opined. The Government was firm on providing irrigation facility to 80,000 acres under the MMD and delay in completion of canal work could adversely impact the decision, he added.

He wanted the Rajanna Sircilla District Collector to accord top priority to the rehabilitation and resettlement of project displaced families. The Government had provided sufficient funds at the disposal of the district administration and the special deputy collectors entrusted with the land acquisition task should expeditiously complete disbursal of R&R package to the affected families, he said.
