Ditching his official vehicle for a motorcycle, Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao drove off for a physical inspection of bank canal works at Ranganaiksagar on Friday.

He travelled about 22 km and spent over six hours examining the ongoing left bank canal works, stopping at each place, enquiring about the quality of works and interacting with farmers who would benefit from the Ranganaiksagar project. He also addressed several issues of the farmers then and there.

“The water will flow via Chandlapur, Gangapur, Ramancha, Pullur, Peddalingareddypally, Narayanaraopet and Lakshimdevipally villages for 70,000 acres under the left canal of Ranganaiksagar. Telangana has been creating history in the construction of irrigation projects in the country. The irrigation projects are being completed in a few months whereas earlier they used to take years,” said Mr. Harish Rao while addressing the media at Ibrahimpur.

The Minister said land acquisition for Anantagiri, Mallannasgar, Kondapochamma, Gouravelli and Gandipally projects had touched 90% completion while for Ranganaiksagar, it was fully complete.

“We will provide rehabilitation and resettlement packages to all land oustees and construct houses wherever they want. They would also be extended fishing rights in these reservoirs. Unable to digest the speed in implementing the irrigation projects, opposition party Congress has been creating hurdles, but we will cross them and complete the projects in time,” he said.
