Thirteen days after two persons tried to kill a middle-aged woman inside her rented house in Vanasthalipuram, the police continue to be clueless on the attackers even as the aggrieved victim has sought justice. She is also worried about her safety.
The woman, Surekha, whose throat was slit by the attackers, identified one of the attackers as Sanjeeva Rao but police are yet to act. Surekha, who is unable to speak due to the deep cut wound, wrote on a piece of paper that she had monetary dispute with Rao, a doctor. According to her, Rao had sold off her land in Suryapet in Nalgonda district after assuring her to help find buyers for the piece of land. She also blamed the Vanasthalipuram Inspector Y. Venkat Reddy. “My cell phones and the house key are in the custody of the Inspector,” she claimed.
Ms. Surekha appealed to the government to provide security and extend justice to her. “I am alone and I have no place to go. The Vanasthalipuram Inspector has threatened my friends not to help me out. I request the government to provide medical assistance and shelter to me,” she said. The Inspector said mobile phones found in her house were shifted to the police station. According to him, investigation has revealed that she had monetary and land disputes with different persons. She lodged a complaint with the Saidabad police alleging that Rao had attacked her. “The case is being investigated, including the possibility of persons involved in the land dispute making an attempt on her life,” the Inspector said.
