Haj pilgrims: quick clearance of passports promised

January 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - Hyderabad:

The Regional Passport Officer, Hyderabad, has agreed to immediately issue passports to Haj pilgrims whose police enquiry report has been received.

The RPO would also replace the existing handwritten passports with machine readable passports as insisted by the Ministry of External Affairs.

These assurances were given by the RPO, Ashwini Sattaru, to Telangana State Haj Committee special officer S.A. Shukoor, on Wednesday. She also agreed to the latter’s request to renew the passports of such candidates whose passports are expiring before March 20, 2016 since the selected pilgrims should possess passports which are valid till that date.
