The security set up for Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has been strengthened with commandos of Greyhounds as his movements in public are expected to go up before the next Assembly elections. According to party sources, the security set up was changed about a week ago itself with commandos of Greyhounds, an elite force set up to combat Naxalism in the past, replacing those from the special police. Instead of two officers of the rank of Sub-Inspectors of Police and four Constables guarding the VVIP in every shift, the new set up is said to have four officers of the rank of sub-inspector and five constables.

The refurbished security set up for the Chief Minister was all visible when he arrived at the TRS party headquarters, Telangana Bhavan, to chair a joint meeting of the Legislature Party and Parliamentary Party on Saturday afternoon. Besides, the present fleet of SUVs with high security features – Toyota Land Cruiser Prado – could also be changed in the coming days with new SUVs of Mercedes Benz, the sources stated. Meanwhile, the party leaders including the MLAs, MLCs, MPs and some special invitees to the TRS LP meeting were told to leave their mobile phone with their assistants before entering the meeting hall so as not to allow leakage of survey details from the spot, as had happened after the first survey details were given to them in the past.

Presidential candidate

On the party's support for Presidential candidate, the meeting was said to have adopted a resolution authorising Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao to take a decision at an appropriate time. Mr. Rao was understood to have told them that there was no need to spill out the party's stand so early since the election could be unanimous too. Even in case of a contest, a decision could be taken later.
